LECTURE/RECITALS

Our Lecture/Recitals can be performed as a single program or in a series and will include more musical information between each selection.

THE FOLLOWING ARE EXAMPLES OF OUR LECTURE/RECITAL TOPICS:

"THE DIFFERENT PERIODS OF MUSIC"

A very condensed musical history is presented, with appropriate performances from the various periods of music: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic and Modern.

"FAMOUS VIOLINISTS AND THEIR MUSIC"

A brief history of some of the most famous violinists: Mozart, Hubay, Wieniawski, Paganini, Kreisler, Enesco, is presented with a performance of some of their better known compositions.

"MUSIC INSPIRED BY DANCE"

Great composers' response to various dance forms (waltz, minuet, rag, ballet, etc.) are performed with a brief historical perspective on each.

"THE SECRET INGREDIENTS OF MUSIC"

The ingredients of musical composition: melody, harmony and rhythm, etc. are discussed, illustrated and performed. The audience has the experience of creating its own composition, including our performance of its world premiere.

"EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THE VIOLIN BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK"

The history of the violin, its various uses in the music world and anecdotes of the most famous violinists are presented - interrupted with performances of some of the best loved violin music. An audience member gets a quick violin lesson and a performance of a duet.

"WHY DVORAK IS NOT MOZART"

The differences between these two great composers is discussed: their music, their audiences, their inspiration and their family background. Performances of a number of their works are performed and compared.

"AN INTIMATE SESSION WITH THE BEETHOVEN ROMANCE"

We dissect and interpret a masterpiece, revealing many of the individual parts that together, create a performance of a beautiful piece of music.

"HOW TO BE A CRITIC"

How to listen to music more critically. Illustrations are given of good and bad performances of various pieces and good and bad interpretations of music. We then open ourselves to the audience's new found wisdom with a final performance.
