DESCRIPTION

Amateur chamber music players are invited to participate in the Spring term of a monthly series of noncompetitive workshops led by artist members of The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and other area artists. Sixteen ensembles participated in the previous term.

Players may sign on as individuals, a complete group, or as a partial group. It is very important that players be matched with others who are at a comparable level of accomplishment. If necessary, a waiting list will be kept to fill potential vacancies.

There will be an opportunity to perform during the workshop term.

FORMAT

Each session will be 3 hours long to be divided as follows:

First 15 MINUTES
Group meeting of participants

NEXT HOUR
Individual groups go off separately to be coached by faculty members

15 MINUTE REFRESHMENT BREAK

NEXT HOUR
Individual groups rehearse by themselves

LAST HALF HOUR
Group reassembles. Faculty or guest speakers will discuss musical, instrumental or informative aspects of music. Past guests have included: Violinist, Philip Setzer (Emerson Quartet); Pianist, Lenore Davis (Arbor Chamber Music Series); Luthier and Bowmakers, Robert Ames, Alexandro Bacelar and Richard Menzel; Critics, Willa Conrad and Paul Somers.

COSTS

Participant cost is $180 for the entire 4 session term. A $45 nonrefundable deposit (which will be applied to the total cost) is required with the registration form.
